The first generation of Chikuhou was born in Echizen, in present day Fukui prefecture, the home of one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns. Aspiring to become a potter, he moved to Tokyo in 1909 and began training various pottery techniques at each of the Kyoyaki kilns. Going independent, he constructed the Chikuhou Kiln in Hiyoshi-cho, Higashiyama, Kyoto in 1920. Now passing down to its fourth generation, Takuro Furukawa, we seek to produce tableware that enlightens everyday life while at the same time preserve Chikuhou’s original style. We offer a large number of goods produced by our highly skilled artisans, from Sometsuke blue and white ceramics, to Uwa-e printed figure ceramics, all produced with our characteristic thin and light touch.
